OSSLT Literacy Practice – Thinking, Writing, and Reflecting for Success

1. Assignment Description

In preparation for your future success on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) and to strengthen your essential learning strategies in reading, writing, and critical thinking, this assignment provides an opportunity to apply core skills learned in Unit 1. You will read sample OSSLT questions from previous tests and demonstrate your ability to respond clearly, thoughtfully, and with proper structure.

This assignment supports the following Grade 9 learning goals:

• Developing effective communication and organization strategies.

• Applying personal learning styles to written responses.

• Practicing time management and self-monitoring through independent tasks.

• Building confidence in written literacy across a range of formats.

You will complete a variety of short and long written responses using reading selections from official OSSLT sample tests (linked below). Your work will be assessed through three lenses:

• Assessment for Learning (to guide your development),

• Assessment as Learning (to monitor your growth), and

• Assessment of Learning (to evaluate your final performance).
