For the poetry unit, you will write responses to four of the poems covered in class, which explain what each poem means, what you have learned from each poem, and how you can relate each poem to your own experiences and the world (40 marks). In addition, you will also need to write four more original poems, and present these original poems to the rest of the class (40 marks).

The total length of the responses should be four paragraphs. They are graded on the following rubric:

For your own poems, you will be graded on how you write your poems (knowledge / thinking) and how you present your poems (application / communication). The teacher will ask you one or two questions about your poetry’s message (for example, “Who inspired you to write this poem on the importance of friendship?”), and the post-presentation conversation will be factored into your communication mark. Your original poems are graded on the following rubric:
