Final Exam |
Each chapter quiz is worth 20 marks, each unit test is worth 28 marks, and each homework assessment is worth 20 marks (where one homework question must be presented to the class). Tests and quizzes have strict time limits.
There is no specific list of homework questions, but the homework must be labelled and organized, showing all steps before the final answer. A minimum total of 10 questions from the chapter sections covered must be attempted per assessment. It is advantageous to do more questions in preparation for weekly tests.
The ISU assignment requires students to teach the class in a short presentation, which is worth 10% of the overall final mark.
The final exam is worth 20% of the overall final mark.
Units of Study
Unit 1 – Polynomial Functions and Inequalities (~25 hours)
Students will learn about polynomial functions, polynomial equations and inequalities. Students will learn about the characteristics of these functions as well as the remainder theorem and factor theorem.
Weighting of summative work (subject to change): Unit 1 Assignment (5%), Chapter 1 Quiz (5%), Chapter 1 Test (7%)
Unit 2 – Rational Functions (~15 hours)
Students will learn about the reciprocal of linear and quadratic functions, and learn to solve rational equations and inequalities.
Weighting of summative work (subject to change): Unit 2 Assignment (5%), Chapter 2 Quiz (5%), Chapters 2-3 Test (7%)
Unit 3 – Trigonometry (~30 hours)
Students will learn about radian measure, trigonometric ratios and special angles, trigonometric identity proofs, graphs of sinusoidal functions, and methods of solving trigonometric equations.
Weighting of summative work (subject to change): Unit 3 Assignment (5%), Chapter 4 Quiz (5%), Chapters 4-5 Test (7%)
Unit 4 – Exponential and Logarithmic Functions (~40 hours)
Students will learn about exponential functions and the inverse, logarithms, power law of logarithms, methods of solving exponential equations, and product and quotient laws. Students will also learn about composite functions.
Weighting of summative work (subject to change): Unit 4 Assignment (5%), Chapter 6 Quiz (5%), Chapters 6-7 Test (7%), Blog / Student Feedback (2%)
End-of-Course Tasks: ISU (10%), Final Exam (20%)
